27 May 2026 | Port Moresby – The Capacity-building Alliance of Sustainable Investment (CASI) participated in and supported the Green Finance Summit 2026 hosted by the Bank of Papua New Guinea (BPNG) and its Green Finance Centre (GFC) in Port Moresby, contributing to regional sustainable finance capacity building and knowledge sharing. The two-day summit brought together around 300 participants to advance green finance implementation and regional cooperation across Papua New Guinea (PNG) and the wider Pacific region.

The Summit featured insightful discussions, and senior-level speeches from Hon. Prime Minister James Marape, Governor of BPNG Elizabeth Genia, Assistant Governor Mr. George Awap, as well as representatives from Pacific Island central banks, regional financial institutions, development partners, regulators, and international organizations, highlighting the importance of green growth, financial sector resilience, and sustainable finance system development in the region.

During the Summit, BPNG and GFC, with support from CASI, officially launched the Green Finance Academy, marking an important step in expanding structured sustainable finance learning opportunities for Papua New Guinea and neighboring Pacific Island economies. CASI serves as a key content and capacity-building partner for the initiative, providing online learning modules and technical support through CASI Academy.

During the opening session, Dr. Ma Jun, Chairman of CASI, highlighted PNG’s progress in developing its green finance framework, emphasizing its relevance as a reference for other island economies in the Asia-Pacific. He also underscored the importance of regional cooperation and capacity building, and reaffirmed CASI’s commitment to supporting BPNG and GFC in advancing sustainable finance development across the region. Mr. Cheng Lin, Head of the CASI Secretariat, also participated in a panel discussion on “Global Perspective on PNG’s Green Finance Journey,” sharing perspectives on green finance capacity building and future cooperation opportunities in the Pacific region.

Under its cooperation framework with BPNG and GFC, CASI plans to further expand sustainable finance training support for PNG and Pacific Island economies through a three-stage approach in 2026, anchored by the planned signing of an MoU and strengthened CASI–GFC Academy collaboration.

The first stage focuses on launching introductory courses on the Green Finance Academy platform, providing open-access learning opportunities and supporting engagement in key regional platforms such as the Green Finance Summit and related capacity-building events. The second stage will deepen integration with Academy through expanded collaboration and broader access to more comprehensive online training content. The third stage will establish a certification pathway with structured assessments to formally recognize participants’ learning outcomes and competencies in sustainable finance.

CASI will continue to deepen collaboration with BPNG GFC, and regional partners to turn sustainable finance knowledge into real capacity and impact for climate-resilient development across PNG and the wider Pacific region.
